Set in the heart of the Cotswold Water Park on the junction of Spine Road and Wickwater Lane is our purpose built Match / day ticket fishery. With a total 73 permanent pegs split into 4 canals by a series of islands, every peg to an island at a distance of 16-19m. The lake has a uniform level bottom of between of 5'6" and 6' depth and a near and far side shelf.
In mid 2006, only having been officially open for 4 months, Walters Lake was rated 47th best fishery of its type by the Angling Times and we are fully confident that as our stock fish grows this rating will increase.
Fish stocks are already very high, however, further stocking is proposed in early March 2007. Present stock fish are mostly Mirror and Common Carp, with an average weight of 12oz to 2lb although this is increasing rapidly. There is a good sprinkling of Carp between the 7-10lb range with the best fish weighed in a match of 13lb 3oz. You will also find a good head of Tench averaging 2-3.5lb and a large number of silver fish to be caught on smaller baits including Rudd, Roach, Skimmers and Perch.
In the summer of 2006 five hour club matches were regularly weighing in 100lb+ bags with several anglers in some matches exceeding this weight. The best to date (dec 2006) is 131lb. Day ticket anglers have had bags in excess of 160-180lb and we have had reports of 200lb+ bags.
We do allow all forms of bait and feed with the exception of nuts and boilies. We restrict to one kilo per angler on both ground bait and pellet feed.
Come and discover for yourself what a fantastic fishery we have at Walter's Lake.
